Whether you’re brand new to JBLM or have lived here for a while, it’s helpful to know what resources are available in the community to help you meet your family’s needs. This page will provide useful links to the programs and organizations on and off post that provides services to the military community.

Assistance During the Shutdown

The Washington State Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) has compiled financial and community resources for federal workers impacted by the federal government shutdown. It has helpful links about a number of topics, including:

  • Mortgages and Rent

  • Student Loans

  • Financial and Debt Assistance

  • Local Resources

The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs has a list of resources specific to military families, which includes

  • SNAP and WIC benefits

  • Child Care Subsidies

  • School Meal Programs

Additional helpful information is provided by the Partnership for Public Service. Resources available here include:

  • Mental Health and Wellness

  • Financial Assistance, including the Shutdown Assistance Map, which has a searchable, filterable map of verified offers—food, financial help, utilities, transportation, entertainment, and more—for federal employees during a shutdown.

Local resources include The United Way of Pierce County and the Thurston County Chamber’s Shutdown Resources page.

American Red Cross

Serving the military for more than 140 years, the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces program provides critical services supporting US military members, their families, and veterans of military service.

Food Assistance

The installation has put together a comprehensive list of many food resources. Food insecurity is one of the biggest challenges our community experiences. It has no specific rank or demographic and this comprehensive list is designed to help in a time of need.
